FAQs

What rules should I know before visiting?

We are a USDA APHIS regulated facility.

To meet the conditions of our permit, restricted items include:

  • Diaper bags, car seat carriers, and strollers
*Medical stroller accommodations will be made.
  • Hats
  • Outerwear, including hooded sweatshirts and jackets
  • Food, snacks, gum, and drinks
  • Sippy cups, bottles, and closed containers, except for water
  • Large bags (must be less than 12"x12")
  • Age 17 & under must be accompanied by an adult for entry into the facility
Can I bring my dog into the facility?
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), only working trained service animals are permitted within the facility. Pets, exotic species, therapy animals, and emotional-support animals are not permitted.

Owners assume all risk to their service animal, including but not limited to zoonotic disease transmission and ingestion of toxic materials.

The ADA does require service animals to be always under the control of the handler. Service animals who attempt to chase or bark at the turtles or quail will be required to leave the Conservatory. You will not be issued a refund or rainchecks for tickets if you are asked to leave the premises.
Why are the facility rules in place?

The Butterfly House & Aquarium is a USDA APHIS regulated facility, and we hold a USDA APHIS permit to display exotic butterflies in our Conservatory. Because these butterflies are non-native, the Butterfly House & Aquarium undergoes rigorous inspections to maintain the permit. To meet the conditions of our permit, the rules must be enforced for all guests entering the facility.

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) protects the health of US agriculture and natural resources against invasive species. All of our rules are in place to protect the butterflies living in our building and to help ensure these non-native butterflies do not escape from the Butterfly House & Aquarium facility.
